The Moxy brand is a playful breed of the Marriott chain that’s a fun and quirky, millennial-minded departure from the chain’s more conservative legacy. The Moxy sits in a historic landmark building that dates back to 1907, but it's all hip and modern style inside; the feisty neon-pink logo stamped over the entrance hints at the hotel’s energy beyond its historic facade. Podium reception desks greet guests at check-in in the ground-floor lobby where a giant bear-shaped sculpture dangles from the atrium ceiling. The main level, one floor up from the lobby, is where the hotel’s main public areas reside, including seafood restaurant Legasea and Bar Moxy, the hotel’s social heart. This area features large open spaces with cozy-chic lounge settings that make for a great co-working area by day and cocktail time by night. Clientele here skews young, though it's not just millennials, and it tends to comprise mainly leisure tourists.

The Moxy is located in the heart of New York City’s Midtown, surrounded by plenty of restaurants, bars, and shops. It takes nine minutes on foot to reach Times Square, the Empire State building, and Bryant Park. For sports fans and concert-goers, Madison Square Garden is just a four-minute walk away, as is Penn Station, where several subway lines provide access across the city. Other top attractions, such as the 9/11 Memorial, Chinatown, and Battery Park are all about a 20-minute subway ride away, while Central Park can be reached in around 12 minutes. LaGuardia and Newark Airports are both about a 30-minute drive away (about 50 minutes by public transit), while JFK takes 40 to 65 minutes, depending on traffic (or around 45 minutes via public transportation).

Rooms here are clean and stylish, but they're small, ranging from 150-square-foot Double Rooms to 350-square-foot Studio Suites. They make efficient use of space with foldaway furniture -- some even have bunkbeds for an adult hostel vibe -- but nevertheless, can feel cramped. Decor is streamlined and modern, featuring light tones and timbers with a Scandinavian air. Old-fashioned corded telephones add a retro touch, while comfy beds are dressed in Egyptian cotton and plush duvets and have under-bed storage cubbies.

Highlights at the Moxy include its five drinking and dining venues, offering a choice of varied fare and fun social atmosphere. Legasea is the hotel's upscale brasserie that serves shareable seafood. For something casual, the Pickup is a grab-and-go cafe located off of the lobby. Street-level Egghead serves all-day breakfast-inspired egg sandwiches. Magic Hour is a large, indoor/outdoor rooftop bar with a playful vibe and outdoor games like mini putt-putt, plus it offers great views over the Empire State Building. Unlike many other seasonal rooftops, it’s open year-round. Servicing the lobby day and night is Bar Moxy’s sleek copper-wrapped atrium bar that serves small bites and cocktails (it serves breakfast too). In-room breakfast is available from Egghead -- guests just have to fill out the menu card and hang it on their room door. For room service beyond this, Moxy suggests using food delivery service UberEats, for which guests receive a discount on their first order.

The hotel's fitness center is open 24/7 and offers a great range of modern equipment, including a punching bag, treadmills and ellipticals with built-in TV screens, and weights. Free (seasonal) fitness classes are offered on the rooftop once a week. The hotel even has an on-site barber shop, the speakeasy-style Blind Barber.
